The Babe's Last Blast

Although he hit more legendary home runs than any baseball player in history, Babe Ruth's last round-tripper may well have been the most incredible of them all. It happened at Pittsburgh's Forbes Field on an unforgettable Saturday in May of 1935.

. . . On the second pitch, Ruth took a tremendous cut and, in the words of Bush [the pitcher], "hit it over the triple-deck, clear out of the ballpark in right center. I'm telling you, it was the longest cockeyed ball I ever saw in my life!"

Ruth's monstrous blast soared over the roof and completely out of the ballpark -- the first time anyonehad ever accomplished that feat! The ball carried some 600 feet and was never found. Everyone agreed it was the longest home run anyone had ever hit at Forbes Field.
